Why Diets Fail

Weight Loss Struggles and Why Diets Fail

Do you experience yo-yo dieting?  Do you struggle to lose weight one year and then slowly gain it back within a year or two?  If this sounds agonizingly familiar you are not alone.  The question on our minds is why diets fail.  Most Americans struggle to keep excess pounds off each year, and the majority of diets we try work for a while, but eventually, the weight loss comes right back and sometimes the weight gain is more than the initial loss.  In this short video, I go over one of the primary reasons why we gain weight back after our diet.

Hi everyone. Today I want to talk about something that most Americans struggle with, and that is their weight.  We will talk about the real reason of why diets fail. So when we go on a diet, we’ve put some pounds on over the holidays, and over the years they finally creep up until we finally think Hey, I have got to go on a diet, I really need to get myself back in shape. So we do good, we watch what we eat, we pick out our favorite diet, and we do it, and we lose a lot of weight. Sometimes we feel amazing and it’s great. But six months or a year goes by and we’ve just slowly put the weight back on. And sometimes we end up heavier than when we started.

Low Metabolism Burns Fewer Calories

So why do most diets fail? Well, one of the main reasons is that our body is actually great at adapting to its surroundings.  So while we are trying to lose weight (so that we can fit in those jeans from two years ago, or look good in a bathing suit at the pool or at the beach), our body just says we are starving. There’s not enough food. If there’s not enough food around, the way that I don’t starve to death is that I slow my metabolism down and I burn fewer calories every day. So this is fine. This is why with most diets we lose a lot in the beginning and then we slow down. And then we get off the diet because we can’t just eat “nothing” forever.  And then slowly we put that weight back on and we’re back to where we started with our calories – with the foods we always ate. But our bodies are burning all that off at a lower rate, so we actually end up gaining more weight. And this is the diet roller coaster, that yo-yo that we all end up on and that nobody benefits from. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

There are effective ways to lose fat, maintain it, and not lower your metabolism. If you’re interested, we actually have an amazing Facebook Live event we’re going to be doing June 12th, in which we talk a lot about why diets fail and what some of the strategies are that you can do, things that can really help maintain your fat loss, make you lean, and make you healthy. So if you’re interested, definitely sign up for the event, and we would love to see everybody there. Thanks.
